Fitting underwater lights to a vessel retrospectively presents a whole series of challenges. Drilling through the hull in to one of the GRP bulkheads would be a disaster as you would be unable to pass the wire inside. Special attention was taken in measuring the distance between the lights and correspondingly the position where the wires entered the boat. There are 6 lights on each side of the boat. A 10mm hole was drilled through the hull to pass the wire though. Each light is bonded on using a UV stable adhesive. Each light has a junction box and is fed from a central breaker in the engine room. The lights are turned on and off by a switch which was added to the bank of switches in the wall in the cockpit. The most forward lights position was determined by the water line when the boat is on the plane as it must be below the waters surface.
Port Side
- The first light is under the stateroom floor.
- Light 2 in under the cupboard at the back of the stateroom.
- Light 3 is in the engine room under the generator support platform.
- Light 4 is just forward of the exhaust outlet.
- Light 5 is under the cupboard in the crew cabin.
- Light 6 is under the crew bed.
Starboard Side
- The first light is under the stateroom floor.
- Light 2 is under the shower tray in the stateroom heads requiring the lifting of the marble shower tray
- Light 3 is in the engine room behind the fuel tank
- Light 4 is just forward of the exhaust outlet.
- Light 5 is under the stairs leading up from the crew area
- Light 6 is under the crew fridge and microwave cupboard accessed by the rudder table.
